The Animal Control division is responsible for investigating animal cruelty, enforcing existing animal control laws, further investigating animal bites, enforcing rabies tag violations and managing stray animals.
The Animal Shelter is for the citizens of Cabarrus County to use, but is not a pet boarding facility. Location: 244 Betsy Carpenter Place, Concord

Stray animals at the shelter may be viewed two ways:
- Online at lost and found
- Visiting the shelter
Fines and Fees
There are fines and fees associated with reclaiming an animal.
- Fines for violation of the leash law in section 10-6 of the animal control ordinances
- Fees associated with reclaiming an animal: boarding (cost of food, water and cleaning supplies) and vaccines
The shelter accepts cash, check, visa or mastercard.

The shelter administers vaccines on a case by case basis. Dogs receive parvo and kennel cough. Cats receive parvo. These vaccines prevent sickness and maintain a healthy environment for all animals at the shelter.
Animal Control does not remove wildlife from basements, crawl spaces, attics, drains or natural habitats. NC State Wildlife provides all wildlife trapping rules, and can be reached at 1-800-662-7137.
